Before Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services implemented Carano’s electronic driver’s license check, the company relied on manual checks. Excel templates were used for this, which were printed out and filled in by hand. For the check itself, the drivers presented their original driver’s license and a manager checked it for authenticity and validity. The printed log was then signed by the respective driver and the manager. The associated administrative effort for fleet management was considerable. There was a lack of overview, and when lists were filled out by hand, there were always problems if the entries were illegible or the archiving was incomplete.
However, in order to meet the legal requirements, the documentation of driving license checks must be traceable. This is because, in the event of a claim, it provides the necessary proof of the inspections carried out. In order to minimize the effort involved and ensure compliance with legal requirements, the decision was made to use a digital solution for driver’s license checks.

Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services applied various criteria when selecting a suitable software provider. On the one hand, it was crucial for the logistics provider that different test methods are offered. On the other hand, they should be simple and intuitive to use. Approval by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure was also an important selection criterion. Carano was able to convince Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services with its software solution for electronic driver’s license control.
Carano was chosen primarily because of the three possible test methods. Most providers either only offer the option of a visual check or only a check with NFC stickers, or they often link it to tolls or filling stations. However, this is impractical for us. We need a flexible solution that covers as many of our ‘special requests’ as possible and we found that with Carano.

The various Carano control methods can be combined with each other in a variety of ways. In addition to checking via smartphone app, a manual check via USB stick at the company locations and a visual inspection are also possible.
Regardless of the control method selected, Carano liva records and manages all driver and driver’s license data in one central location. The software can also be used to define inspection intervals, whereupon drivers are automatically reminded of upcoming and overdue appointments. This eliminates the time-consuming organization of appointments. All checks and test results are stored seamlessly and can be retrieved quickly.
With the smartphone app check, drivers can scan their driver’s license themselves without having to present it to a manager. This provides additional relief and less effort.

By implementing the electronic driver’s license check, the logistics provider was able to significantly reduce the time spent by employees and managers. In figures, this means an annual saving of around €2,500 in driving license checks. Carano’s solution is also impressive in terms of transparency and traceability. Thanks to its ease of use, acceptance among employees and managers was particularly high.
The benefits in terms of quality, such as improved transparency, cannot be quantified, but for me they make up the greater part of the success story.
