Six years ago, the starting signal was given for a partnership between Carano Software Solutions and ISS Energy Services GmbH. A partnership that is bearing fruit thanks to the intensive cooperation. The goal was and still is to map the complex fleet processes in such a way that they can be digitally controlled and are economically sustainable.
The first on-site meeting in Carano’s new offices in Berlin-Steglitz in July 2021 was therefore used as an opportunity to take stock. The topic of flexible mobility has been on everyone’s lips not just since the pandemic. However, the last twelve months have made it clear that fleet and vehicle-related services are needed more than ever.

A lot has happened since 2015, when the company, which specializes in facility management, turned to the Berlin fleet experts to give its business a sound footing as a service provider. Not only did they want to meet the requirements of their own fleet, but also the multi-layered tasks for a diverse customer portfolio with a flexible software.
Among other things, this included setting up a digital vehicle and driver file – what was then laboriously filed in folders in the office cupboard is now done digitally and can be quickly viewed by everyone involved in the software. Reporting, which used to be a major effort in such a heterogeneous fleet, is also quickly available with Fleet+. Today, ISS manages more than 4,000 vehicles, a large part of them cars but also vans, trucks or special vehicles.
Challenges
Manual data storage and reporting causes great effort in the heterogeneous fleet
Solutions
Digital data maintenance and automated appointment coordination relieve the burden on fleet management as well as support for the conversion to an e-fleet
Fleet+ has laid the foundation for us to build up our service area and strengthen it decisively over the years.

In any fleet, owner liability plays a major role, and so it does for ISS and its customers. The topic is future-oriented through the professional competencies at ISS. In concrete terms, this means that ISS uses Fleet+ to coordinate and document the appointment management for the driver’s license check, TÜV or UVV driver instruction. This creates transparency on both sides – for both fleet managers and company car drivers.
The company’s Berlin fleet, in which 30% of all vehicles are electrified, proves that electromobility is no longer a dream of the future but already part of everyday fleet life. Fleet+ was a great support during the implementation of e-vehicles, because with the help of the software it was now also possible to accurately calculate the range of the vehicles and make the general utilization more efficient.
There is still work to be done for the Berlin fleet before it is fully electrified, but Benjamin Simon, authorized signatory at ISS, is confident that the path taken is the right one. The good response from customers and the long-term profitability of e-vehicles prove him right.
We focus on sustainability, because we see,
that electromobility also pays off economically.

As the degree of fleet electrification increases, the relevance of comprehensive software also becomes apparent. Fleet+, for example, enables the flexible billing of fueling data from different providers. A big plus for hybrid vehicles that fill up with both electricity and gasoline.
What’s next? For ISS, the roadmap is clear. In the future, further use will be made of digital tools, e.g. the web portal of Caranofor managing the fleets. This allows customers, partners and drivers to be even more directly involved in day-to-day business. Digital driver’s license checks are also under discussion, as the cost-benefit factor is particularly high here. ISS still has a lot to do and with Carano as an expert in fleet solutions, the company is well prepared for the next steps.
ISS was founded in Copenhagen in 1901. The company provides technical, infrastructural and commercial services on and in buildings, e.g. cleaning, security, support services and fleet management. ISS is active in more than 30 countries and employs over 350,000 people, including 12,000 in Germany alone. ISS Energy Services is a company of ISS Germany.
